Presented by Dr. Carol Salus, Kent State University
The Adult Education Committee is delighted to welcome Dr. Carol Salus for a fascinating presentation on the life and work of renowned artist Roy Lichtenstein. The presentation will take place in Levin Hall.
Dr. Salus will open the evening by exploring several of Lichtenstein’s iconic pieces, along with his works inspired by masters such as Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Matisse. Her perspective is uniquely personal—Carol’s family was close with the Lichtensteins, and Roy even painted her portrait when she was a child. The presentation will also highlight Lichtenstein’s deep connection to Israel. He was a supporter of a two‑state solution, and his commissioned mural for the Tel Aviv Museum of Art reflects that hope. The mural incorporates references to his own creations as well as works from the museum’s collection. Lichtenstein later produced prints of the mural to help raise funds for the museum.
The evening concludes with a look at Roy’s sculpture in the Garden of Dan in Jerusalem, donated in memory of Yitzhak Rabin.
Light refreshments will be served beginning at 6:00 p.m.
