SUMMARY:JCRC Black-Jewish Reconciliation: (Re)Building the Bridge
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 26\, 2026\n7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. \nNational Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center\n1350 Brush Row Rd.\nWilberforce\, OH 45384 \nAvi Dresner and Dr. Godfrey Vincent will co-present during a program\, moderated by Professor Jacques Kahindo\, designed to bring members of the Black and Jewish Greater Dayton Area communities together\, through the narrative of our shared history and values. There will be an emphasis on our connections to the Civil Rights movement\, including stories of Avi Dresner’s father. \nAvi Dresner is a documentary filmmaker\, screenwriter and journalist whose work has appeared in numerous publications\, including The New York Times. He is Executive Producer of the documentary-in-progress\, “The Rabbi & The Reverend” and co-screenwriter of the feature film script “King’s Rabbi”\, both of which tell the story of his father\, Rabbi Israel Dresner\, the most arrested and jailed rabbi during the Civil Rights Movement and an ally and friend of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Avi is also Executive Director of Black-Jewish Reconciliation: (Re)Building The Bridge\, a national lecture tour on the history of the Black-Jewish Alliance and the relevance of that alliance today. \nDr. Godfrey Vincent received his BA in Government and Politics from St. John’s University\, MA in Historical Studies and Political Science from The New School for Social Research\, New School University\, and his doctorate in History from Morgan State University. He is currently an Associate Professor of History at Wilberforce University. \nProfessor Jacques Kahindo earned his Master’s Degree in International Studies and Comparative Politics (2005)\, a Bachelor Degree in Political Science from Wright State University (2002) Dayton\, Ohio\, and Associates in Biology and Chemistry from Sinclair Community College (1999) Dayton\, Ohio. DESCRIPTION:Torn (2025) \nA thought-provoking look at how NYC streets became a battleground over “KIDNAPPED” posters—exploring identity\, empathy\, and freedom of expression post-10/7. \nThursday\, October 16\, 2025\n6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. \nPresented by the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton\, join us for Israel in Focus: A Three-Part Documentary Series\, a powerful three-part documentary screening and discussion series exploring the events of October 7\, 2023 — a day that forever altered the course of Israeli history and touched the lives of Jews around the world. \nEach session will feature a compelling documentary film that offers a different perspective on the events of that tragic day\, to its ongoing human and societal impact\, to how individuals and communities are moving forward in the aftermath. Following each screening\, we invite participants to engage in open\, meaningful conversation with fellow community members. Mental health professionals and clergy will be present to provide support and guidance throughout the evening. \nThis is a space for reflection\, connection\, and resilience — open to all who seek understanding\, healing\, and solidarity. \nThis program is made possible through grants from the Esther and DeNeal Feldman Jewish Experience Fund and the JCC Association of North America\, the Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Antisemitism\, and Connections.
