About the Play:
On a night in 1941, during the Blitz, in a Bermondsey area bomb-shelter in London, two sisters share their story of saving the lives of 29 refugees that were trying to escape Hitler’s Germany before the outbreak of WWII. Escaping their average work-a-day lives, opera became their passion. But when their friends needed help, the opera became their cover to help escape evil.
Ida and Louise Cook were average London spinsters making low wages and living at home with family when an opportunity came to them in 1938. An opportunity to save lives. They summoned their courage and their cleverness and found themselves crossing borders into Nazi dominated Europe. On each trip, under the cover of opera, they smuggled the money and valuables of their friends to London, and eventually the friends themselves, saving each of them from a certain end in a death camp.
