Avi Dresner and Dr. Godfrey Vincent will co-present during a program, moderated by Professor Jacques Kahindo, designed to bring members of the Black and Jewish Greater Dayton Area communities together, through the narrative of our shared history and values. There will be an emphasis on our connections to the Civil Rights movement, including stories of Avi Dresner’s father.

Avi Dresner is a documentary filmmaker, screenwriter and journalist whose work has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times. He is Executive Producer of the documentary-in-progress, “The Rabbi & The Reverend” and co-screenwriter of the feature film script “King’s Rabbi”, both of which tell the story of his father, Rabbi Israel Dresner, the most arrested and jailed rabbi during the Civil Rights Movement and an ally and friend of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Avi is also Executive Director of Black-Jewish Reconciliation: (Re)Building The Bridge, a national lecture tour on the history of the Black-Jewish Alliance and the relevance of that alliance today.

Dr. Godfrey Vincent received his BA in Government and Politics from St. John’s University, MA in Historical Studies and Political Science from The New School for Social Research, New School University, and his doctorate in History from Morgan State University. He is currently an Associate Professor of History at Wilberforce University.

Professor Jacques Kahindo earned his Master’s Degree in International Studies and Comparative Politics (2005), a Bachelor Degree in Political Science from Wright State University (2002) Dayton, Ohio, and Associates in Biology and Chemistry from Sinclair Community College (1999) Dayton, Ohio. He has served as a professor of Political Science at Wilberforce University, where he also serves as an Academic Advisor.
