Ashkenazi populations are prone to certain heritable diseases due to medieval and premodern genetic bottlenecking, geographic isolation, and consanguineous marriage practice. Learn about those conditions as well as the reasons for the elevated risk in the Ashkenazi populations which are not seen in the more genetically diverse Sephardic and Mizrahi lineages.
