CABF: A River Could Be A Tree with author Angela Himsel & From Rose Bowl to Rashi by Emunah Murray, with Calvin Murray
9 October 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
$5.00Angela Himsel grew up the seventh of eleven children in rural Indiana in a fundamentalist, doomsday Christian faith. Trying to strengthen her beliefs, Himsel enrolled in The Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Instead of reaffirmation of what she’d been taught, she was introduced to an entirely different world of people and perspectives. Himsel’s memoir chronicles her unlikely journey to observant Judaism.
Yosef (Calvin) Murray lettered in football at Ohio State and played two seasons in the NFL before an injury ended his football career. He and his wife were committed Evangelical Christians, raising six children in the church where they served as youth pastors. As they questioned and were not content with the answers given, they decided to convert to Orthodox Judaism. The discipline he acquired from football laid the foundation for the conversion process and for leading a meaningful Jewish life. From Rose Bowl to Rashi speaks of their challenges, frustrations, joys, and eventual fulfillment in becoming their true selves.
Marshall Weiss interviews Himsel and Murray as they share experiences about their personal journeys.
There will be a light dessert reception prior to the event.
