Why I volunteer

Die-hard baseball fans are, among other things, dedicated, loyal and passionate. They will do anything to support their team. Our volunteers are a lot like this, including one of our biggest fans, Audrey Tuck.

When she isn’t cheering on her favorite team ~ the Boston Red Sox ~ Audrey can be found volunteering her time to, as she puts it, “Help people and make their lives a little bit better, even if it is just for an hour.”

Audrey moved from Boston to Dayton in 1969. She began volunteering in the Jewish community in the 1980’s. Despite her busy career as a reference librarian, Audrey’s dedication was unwavering. She would, among other things, help out at the library in the JCC and visit residents at Covenant House.

I am not saving a life, but maybe I am helping someone by making her day more pleasant.

Over 30 years later, she is still generously donating her time. Most recently, Audrey has been visiting the same member of the Jewish community every week for the past five years. Through her commitment she has been able to foster a warm, caring relationship.

Her loyal and compassionate personality has made an incredible impact in our community. Thank you, Audrey, for your dedication and passion.
