As a transplant from Florida, I have my own college rivalries. When I arrived in Dayton, I could not have imagined how strong the rivalry is between The Ohio State University and ~well, that school north of us. I learned very quickly that certain names are better left unspoken.

However, there is one thing in Ann Arbor that is worth mentioning, and that is Zingerman’s. Probably most famous for their deli, Zingerman’s actually boasts nine Ann Arbor based companies including Zingerman’s Bakehouse, Zingerman’s Creamery, Zingerman’s Coffee Company, and ZingTrain. ZingTrain shares Zingerman’s unique approach to business by providing visioning and leadership development, among other things.

This past winter, I had the privilege of attending a ZingTrain session while at a JFNA conference. It was eye-opening, thought-provoking, and inspiring. One thing that has reverberated through my mind since that conference is that when brainstorming, the most important thing is to come up with creative ideas. There are NO bad ideas.

I am happy to say we have tried very hard to adhere to that philosophy since the inception of Jewish Dayton Dreams Big. We have received so many incredible suggestions for Jewish Dayton’s future. Many are outside of the box, and I am so thankful for that.

So what is our next step? We invite the entire community to review these brainstorming suggestions at several town hall meetings around our community during the month of June. Taking the advice of ZingTrain, we will look at the suggestions and as a group, ask ourselves the following questions:

1. What ideas are inspiring?
2. What ideas are not strategically sound?
3. What is missing from the results?

Please attend a meeting listed below and help us mold the future of Jewish Dayton.
