Growing up, I was a huge fan of Freddie Mercury and Queen. I grew up with their music. Not only did it get a lot of air play, but it was also used in many movie soundtracks (who can forget the massive resurgence of their song Bohemian Rhapsody in 1992 when it was used in the movie Wayne’s World?). Although I haven’t seen the movie Bohemian Rhapsody yet, it is definitely on my list of things to do.
You may be wondering why on earth any of this is relevant. Interestingly enough, I came upon an email this morning with the subject line “Bohemian Chanukah (a Queen adaptation).” My curiosity was peaked. I quickly clicked on the YouTube link.
What I saw was a fabulous five-minute video from Six13, a six-man Jewish a cappella group. They perform songs from a variety of backgrounds ~ hip-hop to rock ~ using nothing but their voices. And to my delight, they made their very own rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody.
I smiled from ear to ear as they not only did a wonderful job with the song, but their very own take on the music video as well.
I wish you a very Happy Chanukah filled with lots of latkes and sufganiyot!
