Holiday Outreach
What truly makes Jewish Family Services unique is our connection to the Jewish community. Jewish Family Services serves anyone who lives in the Miami Valley, but to the Jewish community, we are family. We share the same values, and like family, our support is steadfast. Jewish Family Services stays connected through friendly visits, volunteers, and holiday outreach. We are family.
What does our holiday outreach look like? Three times a year, at Purim, Rosh Hashanah, and Chanukah, we assemble and deliver holiday bags to isolated seniors and those living in independent, assisted, and skilled nursing facilities. We also deliver bags to those who live independently and are isolated. For Purim and for Rosh Hashanah, we have programs both north and south that are open to anyone who is interested and able to attend. Jewish Family Services is grateful for the support that Beth Abraham Synagogue, Beth Jacob Congregation, Chabad of Greater Dayton, Temple Beth Or, and Temple Israel provide for the holiday outreach bags and for the community support for the programs.
Where to Stream High Holiday Services
If you are unable to go to synagogue for the high holidays but would like to “attend” high holiday services, there are internet-based and telephonic worship opportunities available. A growing number of congregations and other Jewish institutions live-stream their services online. While internet-assisted worship lacks the same personal connection as physically attending a service, it can be a good alternative to be able to experience services and the holidays. My Jewish Learning assembled a list of streaming options. Below is a subset of the list from My Jewish Learning that includes those congregations whose websites and live-streaming services Jewish Family Services verified. Please note that none of the streaming options are from Orthodox synagogues because traditional Jews do not permit using technology on Shabbat and most holidays.
