Cathy’s WHIM – Simply Grateful

Our 2018 Annual Meeting took place last night. It was a wonderful evening. As the meeting came to a close, I began to reflect on what a magnificent community we live in, and the remarkable people I am so fortunate to have around me on this incredible journey as CEO of the Jewish Federation.

I am honored to work with determined and passionate lay leaders such as our recent past president, David Pierce and our new president, Bruce Feldman. The most critical work partnership I have is with our presidents (past, present and future). I am very fortunate to work with such committed and successful men and women as they lead our community and help us reach new heights.

I’m thankful to our committee chairs, members and volunteers, for without them, we would not be able to do what we do. Our community spends countless hours helping to make our programs, services and special projects a success. I am in awe of your unwavering support. You inspire me every day.

I’m grateful to spend each day with such an amazing team of professionals. Every day, our employees strive to work toward the common good of the Jewish community. Their teamwork and dedication shines through everything we do as an organization.

I appreciate our community, and the fabulous people I have met. Our community has become one that people look to for cutting edge ideas. Just yesterday, I was on a JFNA strategic taskforce conference call. After sharing Dayton’s dreams and ideas, one of the consultants on the call said he wanted to move here!

As stated at our meeting last night, I was offered a five-year extension on my contract, and couldn’t accept that offer fast enough! I am overwhelmed at the warm and caring Jewish community we have here in Dayton.

Peter Wells

When I first began my position as CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton, I received a phone call from Peter Wells, who served as CEO of the organization from 1978 until his retirement in 2005. He was in town and asked if he could meet with me. What began as a meeting to provide me with insight and information about the Dayton Jewish community quickly morphed into a very special relationship. Peter wasn’t just a professional resource. He was my mentor and a dear friend. He proved to be a wealth of knowledge, helping me to have a...

The Presidents Dinner honors the legacy of the Federation’s past presidents while inspiring our community with a global message on an intimate level. Attendees also have the opportunity to make a pledge to the 2026 Annual Campaign. Our Chairs for this year’s event are Bernie Rabinowitz and his partner, Elaine Goldberg. Bernie has been a pillar in our Jewish community for many years. He has served on countless boards...

Our #1 Priority
Cathy Gardner

With the continued increase in antisemitism throughout the world, and the recent attack on Temple Israel in Bloomfield, Michigan, we have received some questions about the safety and security of our facility, staff, and the entire Dayton Jewish community. Now, more than ever, safety and security remain our highest priority. Security plays a role not just in event planning, but in our day-to-day operations as well. The Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton takes a proactive approach to safety and security. Our full-time Security Director John Davis, who served over 30 years with the Centerville Police, maintains regular communication with federal,...
